Starting the day two points behind only a win would
clinch the title for the Independents.
Unwantables made all of the early running and won
countless short corners, all of which were close, but not close
enough. It was a nervy encounter with both sides keen not to make
mistakes.
Jordan and Josh Smith linked well in attack with
Geoff Sloan for Unwantables but missed chances and good work by
Indies defence frustrated them.
Captain Mark Tanguy stood out for Indies and made
runs to worry the Unwantables back line.
Indies created one great chance which had to be
cleared off the line by an Unwantables defender, it was however 0 –
0 at half time with very few shots on target recorded.
Unwantables again made all of the running in the
early stages of the first half and some nerves were settled when
they broke down the right wing and passed the ball across the D to
an eagerly waiting Jordan Smith who finished past Dave Walley, who
had no chance.
The game finished 1 – 0 to Unwantables who have
certainly enjoyed winning the Division. Unwantables captain Andy
Roberts summed it up with: "We are obviously delighted with the
result. It was a tight game but we are proud to be the Division 2
champions!"
